Explore the 10 most entertaining and fun American cities

Experts at WalletHub, a personal finance website, recently released their analysis of the most fun cities in the United States. The rankings evaluated cities across three categories: Costs; Entertainment & Recreation; and Nightlife & Parties. Within these areas, WalletHub examined over 60 metrics, including restaurants and the average price of a room in a three-star hotel.

Many major cities are prominent party destinations and famous for their late nights. However, the analysis also considered less flashy metrics – including access to hiking trails, vast areas of nearby land, and cost of living – to determine how close the most enjoyable places are and how accessible that fun is to the average person.

"The most fun cities naturally include some of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S., like Las Vegas, Orlando, and Miami, but these cities are much more than just tourist traps," said WalletHub analyst Chip Lobo.

"They offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for all types of interests, from sports to theaters to arcades, and have plenty of diverse restaurants to try. Major cities provide affordably priced options for year-round fun for their residents, which is good for both their wallets and their mental health."

and 182nd for Cost.

Houston is the ninth most fun city in the United States. It ranked 23rd for Entertainment, 15th for Nightlife, and 25th for Cost

8 - Chicago

Illinois Chicago is the eighth most fun city in the United States. It ranked 10th for Entertainment, 

11th for Nightlife, and 151st for Cost

7 - San Francisco

California San Francisco is the 7th most fun city in the United States. It ranked 7th for Entertainment, 5th for Nightlife, and 182nd for Cost.

6 - Austin, Texas 

Austin is the 6th most fun city in the United States. It ranked 18th for Entertainment, 7th for Nightlife, and 10th for Cost

5 - New Orleans
